sidetracked

A belated post. I have been somewhat sidetracked these past days, not by anything specific or spectacular, just a culmination of little things each day that have left me feeling a little unfocused and uninspired. One of the great modern words to express this feeling is "meh". When I search behind that feeling there is also a restlessness that I haven't quite been able to put my finger on.
It is natural for all of us to have our down periods. I think that people who have long extended periods working alone or living alone are particularly susceptible to having those days where it is harder to harvest the energy and motivation. No matter how self reliant or passionate we may be, sometimes we need to be able to draw that spark from a source other than ourselves.
I also know from past experience that after any deep inner work as I went through last week, that there is also a corresponding fallow period. In agricultural terms, leaving a field fallow for a period of time is essential for restoration of the soil, for long term sustainability. So when we find ourselves in this "fallow state" there are a couple of key things to be mindful of :
to recognise the emotional, physical and mental state as a phase that is natural and essential, a time of quiet preparation.
to stay in a neutral zone ... avoid putting pressure on oneself, avoid giving in to negative patterns of thinking, or succumbing to feelings of inadequacy
to still get things done ... focus on only what is absolutely essential and let the rest take care of itself
moving forward is not always sign posted and obvious in the external expression of our lives, but that doesn't mean a lot of work is happening on the inside.
Flying Solo Tip 071365 : Meh, its just a fallow period restoring the potential and anticipation of a great harvest next season.
