leaf magnet

My courtyard is an absolute leaf magnet. After serious observation and comparison with the neighbours, it is my courtyard that is the optimal distance from wayward leaves falling from the trees nearby trees. It has been extremely windy the last few days and my courtyard was ready with open arms to welcome our mini fall. I often chuckle when after sweeping the courtyard, as if to spite me, a single leaf will twist and twirl through the air, and in the last minute of descent decide to float to finally rest perfectly into the centre of the courtyard.

The Law of Attraction entered popular culture by the writings of Abraham-Hicks (Ester Hicks) and the release of the movie "The Secret". A movie I admit I have never seen. However the idea behind the Law of Attraction stem back way further and can be seen in various cultural beliefs over time.

The Law of Attraction is quite simple as expressed by Charles Haanel; "The law of attraction will certainly and unerringly bring to you the conditions, environment and experiences in life, corresponding with your habitual, characteristic, predominant mental attitude." The strength of your belief about the likelihood of getting what you want is the most powerful factor in determining whether or not you get it. In 1897, Ralph Trine wrote "Determine resolutely to expect only what you desire, then you will attract only what you wish for".

If the writings about the "Law of Attraction" seem to New Age to be palatable, another example is to look at the kind of training and preparation that top performing athletes go through. The Ohio Center for Sport Psychology says that successful athletes:

  • Choose and maintain a positive attitude.

  • Maintain a high level of self-motivation.

  • Set high, realistic goals.

  • Deal effectively with people.

  • Use positive self-talk.

  • Use positive mental imagery.

  • Manage anxiety effectively.

  • Manage their emotions effectively.

  • Maintain concentration.

It is the undeniable belief, attitude and expectation of success that ultimately will bring success.
